v1.1.4LATESTRequires macOS 14 or later

Captures remember the page

  • A capture from Safari or a Chrome-based browser now keeps the page it came from. Open it in the Shelf and the page title is a link back to it, with Copy link beside Copy.
  • The first time you capture from each browser, macOS asks once whether HushNotes may read its tabs. The capture is saved straight away whatever you answer, and you can change your answer later from Settings › Permissions.
  • Captures from other apps keep the app and the time, as before.

v1.1.3Requires macOS 14 or later

Dark mode

  • HushNotes now has a dark mode. It follows your Mac's appearance, or choose Light or Dark in Settings › General.
  • Every note colour has a dark version that keeps its colour and stays easy to read. In a theme you can keep that, use the Light colours, or pick your own.
  • Undo keeps each note's own history when you swipe between notes.
  • A second AI tool that connects while another is waiting for your approval now waits its turn instead of being turned away.
  • Small fixes across Settings.
v1.1.2Requires macOS 14 or later

A recovery key for locked notes

  • The first time you lock a note, HushNotes gives you a recovery key. Download it or copy it somewhere safe. If this Mac's key is ever lost, it opens your locked notes on a new Mac. You can show it again any time in Settings › Privacy.
  • Your licence no longer stops working because a network blocks the check.
v1.1.1Requires macOS 14 or later

Updates inside the app, and shortcuts you can find

  • Fixed minor bugs with local storage.
  • HushNotes can now update itself. Once a day it checks for a new version; when there is one, it shows you what changed and asks before downloading and installing it. You can turn the daily check off in Settings › General, or check by hand with Check for Updates….
  • To get this version, quit HushNotes from the menu bar first, then replace it. From here on, updates install from inside the app.
  • Changing a shortcut in Settings › Hotkeys works one at a time: click a shortcut, press the new keys, and Esc cancels. If another HushNotes action already uses those keys, you can swap them. Keys that would break other apps, like ⇧ on its own or ⌘Q, are refused with the reason.
  • Your shortcuts are one click away in the Shelf: the keyboard button at the bottom, or ⌘/. An empty Shelf lists the ones that matter on day one.
v1.1Requires macOS 14 or later

Your keyboard back, and ⌘F where it belongs

  • The default shortcuts for New note and Hide all are now ⌥⇧N and ⌥⇧H. ⌥N is how macOS types ñ and ⌥H types ˙, and a global shortcut on those took the characters away in every app. If you set your own shortcut, it is untouched.
  • ⌘F now searches inside the note you are writing in, the way it does everywhere else on a Mac. ⇧⌘F opens the Shelf, and ⌥⇧S still does too.
  • Spell checking is on, and your own text replacements from System Settings work in a note again.
  • HushNotes no longer asks about notifications when it starts.
  • Opening a note puts the cursor in the note, not in its name.
  • A locked note shows its name on the window again.
v1.0Requires macOS 14 or later

Initial release

  • First public build.
  • Requires macOS 14+.
From 1.1.1 on, updates come to you. HushNotes checks once a day and asks before installing. Switch the check off in Settings › General, or use Check for Updates… by hand.Download page
From v1.1ONE-TIME STEP

Updating from 1.1

HushNotes 1.1 cannot install updates, so leaving it takes one update by hand. To see your version, open Settings › About.

  1. Download the newest HushNotes from the download page.
  2. Quit HushNotes: click its menu bar icon, then the power button at the bottom right of the Shelf.
  3. Open HushNotes.dmg and drag HushNotes to Applications.
  4. When macOS says an item with that name already exists, choose Replace.
  5. Open HushNotes. Apple has notarized it, so it opens like any other app.

Your notes, locked notes, licence and settings stay. None of them live inside the app, so replacing it leaves them alone. On its first launch the new version moves your notes into a folder of its own, once and by itself.

You only do this once. From 1.1.1 on, HushNotes checks once a day and asks before installing. Automatically check for updates and Check for Updates… are in Settings › General. Installed with Homebrew? You started on 1.1.2 or later, so this step is not for you.
